Chanel announces that Virginie Viard will succeed Karl Lagerfeld as creative director

Following the passing of Karl Lagerfeld on February 19, Chanel has named Virginie Viard as the next creative director of Chanel. Studio director since 1987 and the designer’s right-hand-woman, Viard will now be in charge of the artistic direction for the collections of the French fashion house.

“Unfortunately for many bankers, we will remain a fantasy, but that’s what nice brands are about, creating dreams,” said Philippe Blondiaux, Chanel’s global chief financial officer in response to profit reports.
